Spotted Dog Restaurant serves great food. Lamb shank was fall-off-the-bones tender with a nice earthy sauce over mashed russet potatoes. Broccolini was cooked rich green. Spaghetti with huge meatballs had a succulent tomato sauce although the rosemary was overpowering, and its two thin slices of bread could have been lightly toasted. Shrimp pasta was perfect. A large crusted trout lost its lightness and flavor with its complex breading, but it was still satisfyingly enjoyable and a vegetable side including slightly caramelized carrots swam along with it. Moscow mule and cosmopolitan drinks had a wonderful essence from it's made-in-Utah vodka. Caesar salad dressing tasted too much like mayo, however the lettuce was crisp. Homemade tomato soup was generous and creamy and rich. Desserts included a creme brulee with traces of real vanilla bean left on the bottom. Chocolate lava cake was a warm center of oozy decadence and a fresh strawberry sitting on a nice chocolate sauce gave it a refreshing switch between flavors. Whip cream was not real dairy whipped. Lemon cake was a large happy slice of incredible moistness and an elegant touch of lemon slice and grated lemon rind next to it. The restaurant provides outdoor seating too, and gluten free dishes. Decoration was beautiful with truly fine art landscape paintings of the surrounding Zion Park views. The name of the restaurant is a bit misleading as I was expecting a much casual restaurant experience, but the food was spot on.
Tried to eat here but waitress was indifferent and unhelpful about an allergy which is potentially life threatening. I paid for an unfinished drink just to get permission to leave. Horrible service.
After spending a 2-days-fantastic-vacation in Zion, we went there for our farewell dinner. It was quite a charming experience to dine in the restaurant. The well mannered staff and the beautifully decorated restaurant was really warm on us. There was a little waiting before we got our table, but the waiting was not boring at all. And the food was really good. So good that we forgot to take pictures of it, we just ate. :P
Just came in for a drink but as Utah law requires you buy food we decided to try the crab cakes. Not sure where they find fresh local crab in the middle of the Utah desert but they were actually really good. Lots of crab meat and a terrific sauce. Beers were tasty too. Had a VERY impressive wine list and the bartender was very knowledgeable. Overall a great experience.
Grabbed food here after a long day. Sat outside with incredible views of Zion which made the experience amazing. The food was great, though the service was a bit slow. Couldn't figure out whether this was a upscale place or just a regular old restaurant. Has the name of a cafe, though the experience of an upscale restaurant with well dressed servers and great food presentation.
